As part of the ‘Our Islands Our Home’ campaign, in 2022 eight claimants from Zenadth Kes (the Torres Strait Islands & surrounding seas) also known as the Torres Strait 8, won a human rights complaint against the Australian Federal Government for failing to protect the Torres Strait from climate change, setting a precedent for Indigenous Peoples all around the world.Â
The campaign has now grown to become a powerful Torres Strait Islander led grassroots climate justice movement.
